We, the JCI Cosmopolis, want to provide opportunities for our members to gain international experiences while staying in our home city, Helsinki. Thus our events are meeting points for people with different cultural backgrounds and native languages. To celebrate the cultural and linguistic diversity we have in our chapter, we organized a language café meetup.

Learning the every-day phrases

During the event our native speaker members taught us useful and fun phrases in Arabic (the Egyptian dialect), Russian, and Italian. We learned, for example, to say hellos, how-you-dos, how to order a coffee in the three different languages. The phrases learnt are something we can all use while travelling to make a great impression and win the hearts of the locals.

Event hosted in a cozy new café

The JCI Cosmopolis Language Café was organized in Café Glutique. It is a recently opened, gluten free boutique-type, café in Eerikinkatu, Helsinki. Glutique serves small roastery coffee, gluten free pastries, sandwiches, and other products. The café has a warm and cozy feel, and it was the perfect venue for a small event like this.
